A hands-on cooking class in Marrakech: shop for spices at the market, cook a tagine or couscous with Moroccan salads, learn to pour mint tea, then sit down to eat everything you made.

Our cooking class Marrakech experience is for food lovers who want to understand Moroccan cuisine, not just taste it. You get hotel or riad pickup, a guided visit to a local market to buy spices and produce, a hands-on class cooking a tagine or couscous with seasonal salads, a mint tea lesson, and the meal you prepared.
Moroccan cooking is about slow heat, spice blends and generous sharing. In a relaxed small-group setting, a local cook guides you step by step, explaining the techniques that home cooks in Marrakech use every day.
Dishes vary with the season and the market. Vegetarian versions are easy; tell us about allergies when you book. For background on what you will taste, our guide to Moroccan dishes to try is a good read before the class.

The class begins with a walk through a local market. Learn to recognise cumin, ras el hanout, saffron, paprika and ginger, and pick up fresh herbs, vegetables and bread for your meal.
Back in the kitchen, everyone gets involved: chopping, mixing spice blends, building the tagine and keeping an eye on the pot. You learn why the tagine's shape matters and how to balance sweet and savoury flavours.
Finally, sit down together to enjoy the meal with mint tea. Many guests leave with the recipes and enough confidence to cook a tagine at home.

Couples, families, friends and solo travellers who enjoy food, curious first-timers and keen home cooks alike. It is a great rainy-day or hot-afternoon activity and pairs well with the other experiences in our list of things to do in Marrakech. Heading into the desert afterwards? You will recognise the tagines served on our 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour.
