23 Best Things to Do in Marrakech: A Local's Guide
Our local list of 23 things to do in Marrakech: medina sights, gardens, hammams, sunrise balloon flights, cooking classes, camel rides and desert…

1 or 2 hours of riding (about 2.5–3.5 hours with transfers) · From Marrakech (hotel/riad pickup)
Ride through the palm groves of the Palmeraie or the open hills of the Agafay desert. One- or two-hour horse rides for beginners and confident riders, with hotel or riad pickup in Marrakech.

Our horse riding Marrakech experience is for beginners and confident riders who want to see the landscapes around the city at a calmer pace. You get hotel or riad pickup, a horse matched to your level, an experienced local guide and a one- or two-hour ride through the Palmeraie palm groves or the open Agafay desert.
The Palmeraie is a vast palm grove on the northern edge of Marrakech, just a short drive from the medina. Trails wind between date palms, small farms and earthen villages, with the High Atlas visible on clear days. It is flat and shaded in places, which makes it ideal for first-time riders and families.
About 40 minutes from the city, the Agafay stone desert offers wide hills, dry valleys and big horizons. Rides here feel more adventurous and suit riders who are comfortable in the saddle, especially in the soft late-afternoon light.

| Option | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | Beginners, families, short stays | A gentle walk-pace ride with photo stops |
| 2 hours | Confident riders, keen photographers | A longer loop with more varied terrain; trotting possible if your level allows |
Prefer a slower ride on a different animal? Our camel ride in the Marrakech palm grove visits the same landscape. For a full desert evening, we also run an Agafay sunset camel ride with dinner under the stars.
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons, with mild temperatures and clear views of the Atlas. In summer we ride early in the morning or close to sunset to avoid the heat, and in winter the middle of the day is often bright and comfortable. If you are combining the ride with a desert trip, our guide to the best time to visit the Sahara helps you plan the rest of your itinerary.
Couples, families, friends and solo travellers who love the outdoors, first-time riders wanting a gentle introduction, and experienced riders who want to explore beyond the city.
