Our camel ride Marrakech experience is for travellers who want a classic camel trek without leaving the city for days. What to expect on a camel ride in Marrakech

The Palmeraie is a huge grove of date palms on the northern edge of Marrakech, about 20 minutes from the medina. Its sandy tracks, small villages and palm silhouettes make it the easiest place near the city to experience a camel trek.

Dress the part

On arrival, the cameleers offer traditional Berber clothing and a headscarf. It is optional, but it protects you from sun and dust and makes for memorable photos.

The trek

Camels move at a slow, swaying walk, led by an experienced cameleer. The ride lasts about one to two hours, depending on the option you choose, with stops for photos along the way. Getting on and off is the only tricky part, and the team helps you every time.

Berber tea

During or after the ride, take a break for sweet mint tea, a moment to rest and chat with your hosts about camel life and the Palmeraie.

Sunset option

For the best light, choose a late-afternoon ride ending around sunset, when the palms glow gold and the temperature drops. It is the most popular time, so book ahead.
